The latest from BEC rapper Manafest, Citizens Activ, is a mix of hip-hop and rock with a strong emphasis on the rock influence. It starts out with a song called “4-3-2-1” that includes a repetitive call to “rock tonight.”
Following the lead track is the first song featuring Trevor McNevan (Thousand Foot Crutch), called “So beautiful.” The enhanced CD also features a video for the same song. Trevor is also featured on “Kick It.” One of my favorite tracks is the pop tune “Top of the World.”
Manafest was involved in co-writing on all of the songs along with producer Adam Messinger. As it is stated on the Manafest home page, the album does have a more accessible sound making Citizens Activ more commercially attractive project. In some ways it reminds me of Toby Mac’s work. Personally, I’m not a huge hip-hop enthusiast, but with an emphasis on the rock, I really have enjoyed Citizens Activ.
