Jake Smith
All That We’ll Ever Be
Independent
Grade – A

This is the second EP from New Orleans based singer-songwriter Jake Smith. The first was his Rocketown debut titled Real and now, apparently label free, Smith is letting us know he is not out of the game. (Side Note – The last update on the famed Rocketown label was from December of 2007.) Smith’s new EP, All That We’ll Ever Be, is a more acoustic sounding release than Real. The contrast can best be heard in “This Is Certain,” which you will find on both releases.

One of the new songs that I really like is the track “Can’t Save Your Soul.” This particular track is light hearted lyrically and it has a real Louisiana groove to it.

You will find All That We’ll Ever Need on iTunes, and on Smith’s MySpace page there are song samples and videos to help you get a feeling for his sound and style. Keep in mind too, that with the release of Real, several of us in the industry had marked Smith as one of the best new artist of the year. It’s good to hear some more of the same on All That We’ll Ever Be.
