The Jon Lloyd Band
This Place
Independent
Grade – B

The Jon Lloyd Band and their debut, “This Place,” is comparable to modern worship offerings from the likes of Paul Baloche, Lincoln Brewster, and Chris Tomlin. The lyrical content is pointedly praise and worship and the soundtrack is generally upbeat and full of prominent guitar leads and catchy choruses. I made several connections or associations as I listened to the album, specifically, “Still Speaking” which reminded me a little of a Jeff Deyo style of worship, while the guitar leads in “This Place” were more like that of Lincoln Brewster. To its credit though, the album content is very distinct and although the styles may not be wholly new, they are creative. I have enjoyed spinning the CD on occasion when the mood calls for a pick-me-up-praise-and-worship moment. I could also see some of these songs being played on a more acoustic level in a more contemporary Sunday service. Overall, “This Place” is a fresh release in a very crowded praise and worship genre.
