Josh Wilson is a singer-songwriter recently signed to Sparrow Records and Trying To Fit The Ocean In A Cup is his national debut. Breaking into the singer/songwriter genre could prove to be difficult, but Josh Wilson has a little bit of an edge as his music adds more of a pop-hook to the usual singer/songwriter style. Just take “Savior, Please,” for example, the song has a real melodic hook and the added orchestration gives it another layer of sound that brightens up the sound. Similar to that is “3 Minute Song,” the backbone track of what the title is trying to convey, this is another accessible pop song that is very catchy.

Personally, my favorite track is the laid back piano ballad “Something’s Got To Change.” This song is about transformation and it speaks to me in a personal way. I also prefer the laid back soundtrack to this song compared to the rest of the more upbeat tracks. Overall, the combination of exceptional songwriting and a knack for creating catchy hooks makes Josh’s debut a respectable project.
