Lincoln Brewster The writer of “Everlasting God” returns with his fifth solo work of worship songs. Born in Alaska, his young parents eventually divorced and Lincoln was raised, for a time, by a single mom. The family relocated to Los Angeles and by the time he was 19, Lincoln was on tour with Journey vocalist Steve Perry. It was during this tour that he realized he wanted more than success in this world; he wanted to sing songs that would help bring souls closer to Christ. I really like the up-tempo numbers, “Today is the Day” and “Everywhere I Go.” Brewster is joined by Israel Houghton on “Give Him Praise” and Darlene Zschech on “The Power of Your Name.” Of the latter, Lincoln says, “She called me from Australia and played it for me over the phone, and by the time it was done, I was in tears.” “I’m truly grateful to be able to do what I do. I know I don’t deserve it, but I am committed to doing my best with what God has put before me,” Lincoln says. Sonically. several of the songs have pretty cool opens. I detected a whiff of “Purple Rain” guitar riff. Once the song gets started, however, my daughter commented that they sound “same-y,” not much different from most other worship and praise leaders. - Rob S. |
