Straight No Chaser
Holiday Spirits
Atlantic Records

The group Straight No Chaser is an all male(10 in all) a capella group originally formed at the Indiana University in the fall of 1996. The group was rediscovered via a very popular video clip posted on YouTube.com. The video caught the attention of Craig Kallman, Chairman of Atlantic Records, and he subsequently offered the group a recording contract.

Holiday Spirits is their label debut and it includes the track, “The 12 Days of Christmas,” that catapulted them into an overnight success on YouTube. The CD also includes classics like the do wop “Jingle Bell Rock” and a cool version of “Carol of the Bells,” all done vocally.

For fans of a cappela,I would highly suggest checking out this CD. The only reservation I have is that unlike the majority of the reviews on this site, Straight No Chaser is a secular group. There appears to be no other reason to make a holiday project other than the success of the 12 Days video. However, the obvious references to alcohol, “straight no chaser” and “spirits,” are as about offensive as the project gets and only an extremist would get hung on that so much so that they would dismiss this beautiful music.
