Day of Discovery 54:00 TRT This DVD explores the volatile Middle East. Hosts Mart De Haan and Jimmy DeYoung put the issue in historical context and provide a simple, yet brilliant solution. Part one, “Conflict,” opens at the Western Wall in Jerusalem, which literally separates Jews and Muslims. The problems in the Middle East can be traced back to Abraham and the birth of Ishmael and Isaac. Another part of the problem is that much of modern Israel is secular. There has been mutual loss on both sides. “Without justice, there can be no peace.” However, I think it needs to be noted that man's justice is far from perfect. I also believe that there are more than “two sides” to this issue. Its not black and white. Part two, “More than Forgiveness,” gets at a solution. Is the message of Jesus realistic in this setting where “an eye for an eye” has dominated for so long? The program hosts talk with Arab Christians who say, “yes.” The answer is what we all need, an understanding of the wisdom and love of Christ. Jesus is the answer, and so is a change of heart with humble repentance and genuine forgiveness. That combination will bring down offending walls. Romans 12: 19-21 and Luke 17:4. While the conflict aspect is oversimplified, this thought provoking DVD is available from RBC Ministries at www.rbc.net. RBC (Radio Bible Class) Ministries publishes one of my favorite devotionals, Our Daily Bread. Rob S. |
