Larryboy and the Bad Apple

Big Idea

Larryboy and the Bad Apple is a very clever episode that brings back the superhero character of Larryboy.  The bad apple with an identity crisis, is running amuck weaving webs of deception while the town folk find their leaders getting sucked up in sinful temptations.  Spoiler – Larry’s closing remarks make this superhero film a notch or two above the rest.  Instead of taking the credit for abating his temptations, Larry gives credit to God stating that we are not strong enough to fight temptation on our own and we need God’s help to do it.  For the most part, the hero always saves the day under his or her own strength and I am glad that this episode breaks the mold in that respect.

There are a lot of cute references in the episode like Larry’s famous line, “With great chocolate comes great responsibility,” as well as the multiple Spiderman, Batman, and even a little bit of Willy Wonka references.   Equally important is the Bible lesson that will hopefully be retained by the young viewers and the adults.  Living a life without temptation would be nice, but it’s not realistic.  However, we have been promised the Holy Spirit of God to get us through our temptations.

Larryboy and the Bad Apple is a witty movie with so many references you will always be surprised through each twist and turn of the plot.  The DVD comes with a few extras as well and you can find out more about it on the Veggie Tales web site.
