Switchfoot
“Live at the Ventura Theatre”
Lowercase People Records/Independent release
TRT: 1:11
Grade = B-

SwitchfootWhile interviewing four of the guys in Switchfoot during Lifest (sans Jon Formean), I got the impression that the band was looking forward to being independent as the move would give them more artistic freedom. Also, in listening to Jon’s four solo EPs, one gets the impression that being a “rock star” on a major record isn’t as groovy as it sounds.

This concert was recorded a year ago in March. You can find it on the band’s web site.

Switchfoot has some very strong songs, including “Dare You to Move,” “Shadow Proves the Sunrise” and “Meant to Live.” All the hits are here.

The show itself is kinda boring. None of the guys exudes charisma while the crowd doesn’t really get into the show until the last two or three songs. At the time, the bit with the rope light in the audience must’ve seemed like a good idea but adds nothing but a mess to the production of the show. Between-song-banter and antics are a bare minimum. ZZZZzzzzzzzz.

Hardcore fans who have to have everything the band’s ever done might approve of this release, which is more than likely meant to fill the gap until a new album comes out.
